Keeping Tradition Alive — One Avocado at a Time

From My Grandmother’s Farm to Baby’s Day 1: Why New Moms Deserve a Safe Haven
In my childhood, care wasn’t something you booked by appointment — it was a way of life.
And no one embodied that more than my grandmother.
She was the queen of our town and the most respected midwife for miles around. She delivered hundreds of babies, each one welcomed into the world with a head-to-toe treatment of her own herbal hair and skin blend. It was more than beauty — it was protection, blessing, and a promise that this child was part of a bigger story.
The Farm That Became a Safe Haven
Though she had her own quarters in the royal palace, my grandmother preferred her farm. More than just a place for growing food and herbs, it was a compound where struggling mothers could find refuge. Women came to give birth there and often stayed, resting in the comfort of community.
She fed them, taught them how to care for their newborns, massaged their bodies back to health, and gave them her famous hair and skin treatments — all while making sure no one felt alone. Her farm was a living, breathing village for motherhood.
Hair Care as a Love Language
In our family, hair care was a ritual. “Hair day” meant cousins lined up like little soldiers, each waiting for their turn on the wooden stool. Grandma would massage warm oils into our scalps, hum traditional songs, and share stories about the lives she’d touched. It was nurture in its purest form — and I never thought I’d carry it forward.
How It Came Full Circle
Fast forward to me as a new mom. Three days after leaving the hospital with my daughter, I was overwhelmed. I saw other mothers battling bald spots and cradle cap on social media, and I didn’t want that for her. I started a preventative routine, drawing from my grandmother’s recipes, tweaking them with my own plant-based spin.
The results were incredible — not just for my daughter’s hair and skin, but for my confidence as a mom. That’s when I realized… my grandmother’s vision didn’t have to stay in the past.
The Birth of Baby’s Day 1
I founded Baby’s Day 1 to bring that same care — both the physical and emotional kind — to modern mothers. Just like my grandmother’s farm, our maternity centers will be safe havens where moms can recover for months if needed.
We’ll provide:
- Plant-based baby care products for healthy hair and skin from day one
- Nutritious meals for postpartum recovery
- Mental health support to prevent and manage postpartum depression
- Childcare education so mothers leave confident and capable
- Financial literacy programs to help families thrive long after leaving
Because three days in a hospital is not enough. Motherhood deserves more than survival — it deserves a village.
